Projects - Cutty Sark

In May 2007, the fire on the Cutty Sark was seen as an opportunity for the Company to offer its services to restore the proud status of this unique British Heritage. The ship was undoubtedly in a sorry state and Sussex Blast Cleaning Limited made a proactive approach and presented their services. They were invited to complete trials for the restoration project, where it was able to demonstrate fully its high levels of competence and expertise. The contract was won to complete the restoration in November 2007 after competing against much larger and high profile companies.

The project went on over 18 months and involved working on different sections of the ship, accommodating other teams working on the restoration project simultaneously. Containment was a key factor in the process along with temperature, atmospheric controls and health and safety.

The main body of the ship was completed in 2009 where the Trust was absolutely delighted with the outcome of the restoration we had achieved. This has been an ongoing project which the Company has been proud to undertake, and a lasting icon that has given the staff great pride and satisfaction. This project has certainly seen the business move forward in both status and reputation.

It has led to the Company being invited to work on HMS Warrior, an iconic example of British Military Heritage based in Portsmouth and other prestigious projects.
